Reading Festival! Open the door!


Wednesday, June 22, 2022 marked the Reading Festival Day of Yeriel Bracha School—a day with no hour, minute or second short of reading.

As an institution committed to raising enthusiastic readers and writers, the day was adorned with beautifully coloured pearls of reading material all over our school and crowned with delightful performances by learners of the school which brought both joy and tears to all in attendance.

The chairman of the programme, Mr. Asare, a competent civil engineer and parent,  commenced the programme with a few words of exhortation, urging on all the learners, who eagerly sat with stiff ears, to cultivate the habit of reading.

The first performance was the news reading session by our news team who presented and threw light on headlining issues that had transpired in the school thus far.

Following the TV news reading was the debate competition among some learners in Grade 8 on the motion “Technological advancement is responsible for the poor academic performance of learners” which saw the opposition team surface as the winners of the debate.

Then, in an eye-opening and mouth-watering drama titled “I’ll rise”, the drama team delivered an awesome performance which roller-coasted between moments of joyful cheers and scenes of dark, silencing tears.

After being briefly served with a beautiful chain of poetry recitals by some learners, the entire programme was climaxed with a spelling bee competition both at the lower grade and upper grade levels. Eventually Kerry Kekle Amegavi, a Grade 6 learner soared as the grand winner of the upper grade level receiving a sleek trophy for his outstanding performance.

Indeed, it was a Reading Wednesday filled with continuous showers of abundant knowledge.

A visit to the orphanage home

  A few selected learners from Yeriel Bracha School among 7 staff members, on Thursday, 21st July, 2022, as part of our Edify GETU Project, made a call in on the House of Mercy Orphanage located at Teiman. A two storey apartment stood about 100 metres from the main gate we went through.  A neat gravel sprawled across the driveway. A playground and slides built on a neatly cut evergreen lawn. The main building was unblemished. A cool simple air filling our lungs and refreshing our breath after a nearly 45 minute drive from our school. We were welcomed by Reverend Mr. William Tetteh Deku, the director of the orphanage, and about 5 staff of the orphanage. The living room radiated this calmness like the cool harmless water that washes ashore the sea. A simple small room. Tiled floors, tidy environment. YBS Educational tour

  Early Wednesday morning, 20th July, 2022 seemed very normal. The rough brown walls,  the neatly polished gate and the turquoise building of Yeriel Bracha School remained in the exact positions we had left on Tuesday. Well that's not to say we expected it to move. It's not a train, is it?  But one thing was certain to move—the school bus!                           Learners on board the school bus!!!! The sun shone in light and soft rays.  It didn't look like it wanted to hurt us in anyway. Learners from grade 3 to grade 8 had laced up their boots for the educational tour to Edward Akuffo Addo Public Library. End of second term sports activities

  A line-up of sports activities capped the End of Second Term celebration of the 2021/2022 academic year. Amid the din of good music and thrilling cheers from learners, sports activities such as football, sack races, volleyball, lime picking, etc rolled out. Learners and facilitators who were readied in their athletic wears sang, danced and engaged in the activities with so much excitement and fun. It was beautiful.
